PBJ pain-control guide

Iovera Before Knee Replacement

Iovera is a preoperative nerve-cooling treatment that may be considered for selected knee replacement patients as part of a multimodal pain-control plan. It is not the whole recovery plan, but it may help some patients start recovery with less discomfort.

Patient education

Useful guidance before the visit, clearer decisions during the visit.

01

How iovera fits the pathway

The PBJ Rapid Recovery approach may evaluate selected patients several weeks before surgery, use a diagnostic nerve block, and then decide whether nerve cooling is appropriate.

02

Pain control is multimodal

Iovera does not replace surgical technique, medication planning, swelling control, therapy, ice, sleep, and safe walking.

03

Candidacy matters

Not every patient needs or qualifies for iovera. The decision depends on symptoms, anatomy, timing, safety, and insurance or cost considerations.

04

How I use this guide in a real visit

I do not expect patients to memorize every detail. The useful part is noticing what sounds like your situation, then bringing that question into the office so we can apply it to your X-rays, exam, and goals.

05

What changes the recommendation

Knee recommendations change when weight-bearing X-rays show advanced arthritis, when swelling and stiffness are taking over, when nonsurgical care is no longer holding, or when medical risk and home support make waiting safer.

Related patient trust

Knee patients want to know if it is time.

Most people are not looking for a sales pitch. They want to know whether injections, therapy, partial knee, total knee, or robotic planning makes sense for their knee.

01

Partial and total knee replacement guidance

02

Robotic-assisted planning when it fits

03

Recovery help for swelling, motion, golf, hiking, and walking

Make it personal

A guide helps. Imaging, exam, and goals make the plan real.

Bring your symptoms, records, and questions into a focused consultation so this information can be applied to your case.

Written for patients by the practice

Orthopedic guidance should be clear enough to help you make a real decision.

Dr. Paul Norio Morton created Joint Replacement Hawaii to help patients understand hip pain, knee pain, arthritis, sports injuries, robotic joint replacement, revision surgery, injections, and recovery before they come in for a visit.

Recognition

Awards, focused training, and Hawaii-specific care planning help patients compare trust before they schedule.
