Patient education

Useful guidance before the visit, clearer decisions during the visit.

01

Get the medical pieces organized

Clearance, labs, medication lists, allergy information, prior operative reports, imaging, and specialist notes help avoid last-minute delays.

02

Prepare the recovery environment

Home safety, equipment, transportation, caregiver availability, meals, ice, and sleeping arrangements should be ready before surgery.

03

Know the plan before surgery day

Patients should understand the procedure, anesthesia, pain plan, discharge expectations, wound care, therapy, and warning signs before they arrive.

04

What I want patients to do before surgery day

Set up the home, organize medications, choose the person who will help you, remove fall hazards, and write down the questions that make you nervous. Preparation lowers stress for the patient and the family.

05

When to call instead of waiting

Call for concerning wound changes, fever, chest symptoms, calf pain, sudden severe pain, worsening swelling, confusion, medication problems, or anything that feels unsafe. It is better to ask early than to sit at home worried.

Related patient trust

Recovery is easier when patients know what is next.

The recovery pathway should make home preparation, medication timing, wound checks, therapy, warning signs, and activity milestones easier for patients and families.

Make it personal

A guide helps. Imaging, exam, and goals make the plan real.

Bring your symptoms, records, and questions into a focused consultation so this information can be applied to your case.

Written for patients by the practice

Orthopedic guidance should be clear enough to help you make a real decision.

Dr. Paul Norio Morton created Joint Replacement Hawaii to help patients understand hip pain, knee pain, arthritis, sports injuries, robotic joint replacement, revision surgery, injections, and recovery before they come in for a visit.

Recognition

Awards, focused training, and Hawaii-specific care planning help patients compare trust before they schedule.
