Legacy JRH recovery guide
Speedy Recovery After Hip and Knee Replacement
A speedy recovery is not a trick or a slogan. It is the result of many small decisions made before surgery, during surgery, and after surgery: the right diagnosis, careful planning, pain control, home setup, nutrition, walking, sleep, and knowing when to call.

Patient education
Useful guidance before the visit, clearer decisions during the visit.
01
Choose the right guide
Patients should feel comfortable asking about experience, fellowship training, technology, communication style, reviews, and follow-up care.
02
Prepare before surgery
Optimization includes medical clearance, smoking status, nutrition, strengthening, mental preparation, home safety, caregiver planning, and medication review.
03
Recover with structure
The first days should cover pain control, wound care, walking, swelling, therapy, hydration, nutrition, sleep, and warning signs.
04
What I want patients to do before surgery day
Set up the home, organize medications, choose the person who will help you, remove fall hazards, and write down the questions that make you nervous. Preparation lowers stress for the patient and the family.
05
When to call instead of waiting
Call for concerning wound changes, fever, chest symptoms, calf pain, sudden severe pain, worsening swelling, confusion, medication problems, or anything that feels unsafe. It is better to ask early than to sit at home worried.
Related patient trust
Recovery is easier when patients know what is next.
The recovery pathway should make home preparation, medication timing, wound checks, therapy, warning signs, and activity milestones easier for patients and families.
